Importance of critical reasoning

I was watching this discussion about shah rukh khan's detention in US airport on NDTV. There was this bunch of ppl discussing the recent detention of Shah rukh. The panel included Mahesh bhatt (film producer) and Javed Akhtar(Lyricist) and Sadanand Dhume an indian writer and journalist. Sadanand was making a point that the actors' detention had nothing to do with any racial or religious stereotyping and citing another incident where one US senator Mr. Kennedy who was also detained 5 times in the same month and that we should not export the VIP or babu culture to the US. Mr Javed akhtar and Mahesh bhatt immediatly started attacking his indianness. I thought Sadanand made a fair point and javed akhtar did not have a good counter so he and mahesh bhatt resorted to Ad hominem. I think people who are invited to debates and discussion should be trained in critical reasoning. Any tom dick and harry should not be allowed to have free air time. In fact critical reasoning should be taught as a subject in primary school level. Here is the link if you want to view the discussion and also a table of logical fallacies one should always remember when arguing.....http://www.ndtv.com/video/player/news/fromndtv/229237
